Brief Description

Founded in 1991, HKUST is an international research university in Hong Kong excelling in Science, Engineering, Business and Management, as well as Humanities and Social Science. HKUST offers an international campus, and a holistic and interdisciplinary pedagogy to nurture well-rounded graduates with global vision, a strong entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking. Over 80% of our research work were rated “Internationally excellent”or “world leading” in the Research Assessment Exercise 2020 of Hong Kong’s University Grants Committee. We are ranked 40th in the latest QS World University Ranking. Our graduates employability earns us 23rd in the Global University Employability Ranking 2021 published by Times Higher Education.

    Financial Aid

    HKUST provides various scholarships for students to join our PG community.  

    • Postgraduate Studentship (PGS): 216,360 HKD  (~27,700 USD) per year, up to 2 years for full-time MPhil students and 4 years for full-time PhD students

    • Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS): a prestigious award for the best PhD students around the world, offering an annual stipend of 322,800 HKD (~41,400 USD), an annual conference travel allowance of 13,500 HKD (~1,730 USD), for 4 years, the HKUST Red RedBird PhD scholarship (a recruitment scholarship of 40,000 HKD (~5,100 USD) in the first year and an academic excellence scholarship of 20,000 HKD (~2,550 USD) per year, in the following years, subject to the academic performance).

    • RedBird PhD Scholarship Program: a recruitment scholarship for new PhD students with 40,000 HKD (~5,100 USD) and a waiver of tuition fee in the first year,  and an academic excellence scholarship for current PhD students, in recognition of their outstanding performance and research capacity, with 20,000 HKD (~2,550 USD) per year in the following years, subject to the academic performance.

    • Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program (AFLSP): a scholarship program for young East, Southeast and South Asia to pursue master's studies and cross-cultural enrichment
