AHEO 2019 FINDINGS PRESENTED AT TOKYO CONVENTION IN BANGKOK

Attending the Second Session of the Committee of the Asia-Pacific Regional Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications in Higher Education (The Tokyo Convention Committee) in Bangkok, Thailand, Director of the AHEO Project, Associate Professor ZHONG Zhou from Tsinghua University’s Institute of Education shared the results from the Asian Higher Education Outlook (AHEO) series. The event is supported by the UNESCO Bangkok Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education. Speaking at the conference on September 19th, Assoc. Prof. Zhong presented the findings from the second in the AHEO series,AHEO 2019: Innovations in Higher Education, which will be published by Routledge.AHEO 2019looks at various aspects of education innovation through university undertakings in teaching innovation, doctoral education and online and mobile education, as well as contributions to education in areas of sustainable development, social engagement and university futures. The third in the AHEO series due to be published next year,AHEO 2020: University for Sustainable Development, will examine case studies of the 15 AUA members as well as conducting cross-university comparative analysis of members and analyzing key trends and issues concerning universities and sustainable development.

The Tokyo Convention seeks to establish a collaborative framework for the shared and objective recognition of higher education qualifications among State Parties. State Parties (as of Sep 1st 2019) are Australia, China, New Zealand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Holy See, Mongolia, and Turkey. Coming into force in February 2018, the Convention supports and commits to the increased mobility of students and academics and the strengthening of collaboration in education cross the Asia-Pacific region.
