AUA Lecture Series 2022: Future of Energy is coming!

Date: 2022-10-05

In September 2021, AUA launched a joint online lecture series as an attempt and first step towards the long-term goal of an online shared course. In the first of the series, 15 eminent scholars from 13 leading universities in Asia addressed the challenges and opportunities of Asian economies in the post-COVID-19 era from various perspectives. Both the AUA students and the global audience gained a good level of understanding of different Asian economies. In addition, the AUA students enrolled in the program had an opportunity to study and have discussions with other students from Asia.

This year’s lecture series theme is Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. In reaching the targets for Goal 7, Asian countries developed their national energy strategies and energy policies based on domestic energy demand and the international energy situation. Asia has abundant and promising clean energy resources, which is an important foundation for achieving a clean, diversified, reliable, and economical supply of energy in the future.

This year’s lecture series will invite experts from each AUA university to introduce the energy strategies of their home countries, including scenario planning, and guide students and other attendees to rethink how to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.”

The Lecture Series 2022 will start in October and last for 11 weeks, with two weekly lectures plus a closing session. Each lecture is conducted by a member university and will consist of the following two parts:

Part A: a 50-minute public lecture;

Part B: a 40-minute freely-designed teaching session, which may include Q&A, interviews, group discussion, and any other innovative interactive teaching method.

There are two ways students can participate in the program:

1) Students can apply to be regular participants nominated by the AUA member universities. They constitute the main body of students, participating and interacting with the lectures. Attendance will be recorded, and the regular participants will earn a certificate of completion if they complete at least 80% of the lectures and academic assignments. The nomination form has been sent to the liaison of each member university.

2) Students can also register for a particular lecture or several lectures. As members of the audience, they may sit in on the lectures and ask questions, but their attendance will not be recorded, and a certificate will not be awarded. The information on each lecture and registration link will be released at http://www.asianuniversities.org/lectureseries/.

Schedule:

- Date: Every Tuesday & Thursday, October 11th to December 15th, 2022

- Time: 18:00-19:30 (UTC+8)
