10th Asian Management Research and Case (AMRC) Conference

The Covid-19 outbreak has challenged every aspect of management, forcing stakeholders to adapt and evolve amid increasing uncertainties. The impacts of the pandemic have been starkly different for developing nations; yet the rapid adoption of technology to prop up segments of business and industry presents a unique disruption that promises endless possibilities for growth, driving employment, increasing productivity, impacting global health and education, and transforming supply chains beyond borders. From October 4th to October 6th, under the theme of “Building Resilience in an Increasingly Turbulent World: Evolving Managerial Perspectives”, the 10th Asian Management Research and Case Conference (AMRC) in Collaboration with the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) was successfully held at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain, UAE.

AMRC Conference aimed to explore the intersection of business and society in the context of building and enhancing resilience to overcome emerging challenges. It was organized by the College of Business and Economics at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), IIM Bangalore, and the University of Dhaka in collaboration with the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA). Research papers and teaching cases mainly addressed the issues that were related to the conference sub-themes: Accounting & Finance, Managerial Economics, Corporate Social Responsibility, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business, Organizational Behavior, Technology & Operational Management, and Leadership.

Prof. Dima Rachid Jamali

On Oct 4th, the conference began with the keynote address delivered by Prof. Dima Rachid Jamali, Dean & Professor of Business Administration from the University of Sharjah. During the first day of the conference, two Professional Development Workshops took place. The first workshop, "Meet the Editors” was moderated by Prof. Wayne Hochwarter (Florida State University). The second workshop, "Teaching by the Case Method” was conducted by Prof. Jawad Syed and Dr. Shakeel S. Jajja from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). The day also included five paper presentation sessions on themes of operations management, marketing and strategy, accounting and finance, ethics and social responsibility, and gender, diversity & organizational change.

H.E. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Chancellor of UAE University


The Joint Opening Session of the 10th AMRC 2022 and 26th MIE Conference was held on the morning of the second day of the conference. After the National Anthem and Introductory Video on UAEU, opening remarks were delivered by H.E. Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Chancellor of UAE University. Following this, two professors delivered welcome addresses: Prof. Mohamed Madi, Dean of College of Business & Economics, UAEU; Prof. Alnoor Bhimani, Honorary Dean Suleman Dawood School of Business, LUMS. In the afternoon, two keynote speeches were delivered by Prof. Alnoor (LUMS) and Prof. Michael Holmes (Florida State University). Also, the three parallel paper presentation sessions took place focusing on Human Resource Management, Managerial Economics, and Production & Operations Management.

The 3rd day of the conference started with keynote speeches delivered by guest speakers: Prof. Maunther Barakat from New York University Abu Dhabi; Prof. Maura Scott from Florida State University. They provided insights on financial markets in times of crises and how can marketing research advance individual, societal and environmental well-being. Following this, four parallel sessions took place exploring the following research areas: Business & Management, Marketing & Entrepreneurship, Economics, and Organizational Behavior.

Participants of the AMRC Conference 2022 included representatives from several AUA member universities: University of Colombo, Universitas Indonesia, Nazarbayev University, Tsinghua University, National University of Singapore, United Arab Emirates University, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Overall, the conference was a great success. Participants concluded that being resilient is the key to adapting to a new normal. Resilience helps communities transform traditions to keep each other safe, and businesses learn to grow in the face of turbulent conditions.
